It is not always what you need
So one day as i carried out my duties at work, we encountered a child from Kamuli who use to crawl up to 3 kms to work. She was accompanied on a daily to school and back home by fellow school mates. She was determined to go to school. This may have been the reason she caught the eye of our Executive Director.
As is the case with most organisations, we were quick to decide on the kind of remedy this girl needed. Yes it would look good in the news papers. Don’t all Corporate Social Responsibility events end up in the Daily press and annual reports. It is a good thing.
This specific case was assigned to me to handle. So i proceeded to locate the child from Kamuli. She had been shifted from Kamuli to Katalemwa Chesire Centre at the time. I has instructions to see her, ascertain her size and determine what the size of her wheel chair would be. In our minds, a wheel chair would save her from crawling to school.

Because the story had run in one of the news papers, several people were moved by her case and had offered help ahead of us.
Corsu Hospital had asked to see the girl and after careful examination decided her bones could be rearranged to enable her to walk. Corsu had proceeded to carry out an operation which would give her a chance to walk – atleast with walking aids.
So by the time i got to her, she was already operated on and her legs bandaged in the white orthopedic cement that would enable her legs to straighten.
It dawned on me, that what my organisation was offering would keep her restrained in some way while God had planned that she would be able to walk some day. The wheel chair would have helped but giving her an opportunity to walk was far greater and better.
So anyway, once she left Chesire Katalemwa centre, she returned home to Kamuli. I visited her at home and found her walking comfortably with walking aids. I wonder, if she did ever walk without the aids.
As i reflected on this scenario, i thought to myself about the help we receive. Is it really what we need? Is it really the best option for us? Lets take a moment to reflect on the lifts we got that took us the longer way and not nearer to home. Lets reflect on the help we offer to others. Is it really the best help. However, do not reflect too much that you end up not offering any help.
I bless you in the name of the Father, Son and The holy Spirit. Amen
You are in the law of reflection and have shared a great tenet of wisdom on giving. Thank you.
