So i have been told by someone extremely close to me that ” You want to solve the whole world’s problems”. Ok yes i do and am not afraid to admit it but sometimes my means have dictated otherwise.
I was reminded on Sunday while at church about the story of Nehemiah. You see, Nehemiah was a cup bearer for a king. That was a very important position and i believe he was well looked after in the King’s courts.
But once he found out that the wall of Jerusalem was still broken down and the gates were burned with fire, it pained him and his countenance fell. He was sad. Nehemiah sought God on the matter. Nehemiah prayed. He asked God to be attentive to his prayer. He received a word from God on what to do and he told no one.
Nehemiah must have been a good servant, a jolly guy because his master was quick to notice his sadness. He asked to be allowed to go home to do something about the situation in Jerusalem. There was scorn ofcourse but he took no mind to it.
And then what happened in Jerusalem is the gist of my text. Nehemiah in chapter 2 verse 17 says,
” ….Come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach.” Verse 18: ….And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work.”
Excerpts from Nehemiah 2: 17,18 KJV.
Every household repaired or rebuilt the part of the wall that was with in their reach. Household after household after household after household( Read this in parte after parte rhythm) The wall was rebuilt. Hallelujah. The Wall was rebuilt.
I dare to think that its not just the wall that was restored, the Israelites were restored, hope was restored, faith in their God was restored.

Yes, the World may have many problems, but imagine if we all did our part to rebuild the broken walls in front of our households, reaching out to the lost in our communities, feeding the hungry in our communities, paying a little visit to the bereaved in our communities, just simply being present in our communities, the World would be restored in one bit. We can restore physical walls and emotional walls household after household, bit by bit.
Be reminded that God gave Nehemiah this idea. God will give you an idea that will restore a specific brokenness. Just ask Him. And when he gives you an answer, an instruction, just do it.
